Netflix has done a wonderful thing

After months of waiting, and patiently waiting i may add, Arrested Development has finally found its way to the instant que.

The best show ever put on TV, easily, has finally made its way to your TV any time you want it.

The show is just so over the top, it’s almost too funny. The video i posted of the documentary project says it all. The characters are all hilarious and the actors that play all of them fit the parts perfectly. The show, which started small and never got the proper attention it deserved, has sprung board a cast full of unknowns or fairly unknowns into the realm of superstardom (Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, and David Cross)

The Golden Globe winner for best comedy has been in the news about a possible movie for sometime. While we wait for the movie, which should be one of the funniest in recent memory as well as a high grosser, we can enjoy what is the best show to ever come on our TV’s. Thank you Mitchell Hurwitz for creating such a great show that pushes the boundaries of comedy and gives us hope for TV shows like Its Always Sunny In Philidelphia. Awesome

Spread…a secret double meaning

Living the L.A. lifestyle is something that everyone wants to do. Who doesnt want to become a star and have everything seeminlgy come to them? That is the dream in this movie. Ashton Kutcher plays Nikki, a young 30 year old who came to Hollywood to strike it big but has instead done something a little different. The movie opens with Nikki leaving a mansion and walking down a large hill saying how most of his Hollywood dream came true.

This is where we really meet Nikki. He goes around from woman to woman and basis his relationship on a 23 step process of getting women to trust you. By doing this, he gets the women to spend money on him and give him nice places to live, and all he did in return was sleep with them whenever they felt it appropriate. The story starts with Kutcher moving in with his new girlfriend (Anne Heche) and reaping all of the benefits from her immediatly. Kutchers life is thrown upside down when he finds out the new woman he wants after his 23 steps with Heche is over (Played by Margarita Levieva) is exactly like him. The two form a special bond but their lives are never quite the same once they meet one another.

Kutcher finds a way to make his character very believable. Some people could say this story is a complete farce, but I think there is some subtle truth behind what the characters do. There are plenty of people who get into relationships for the money, maybe not in this type of fashion, but in some way. The ellegant life of Hollywood puts pressure on people to perform, and those who dont have to find a way to conform.

Spread shows the lives of sex addicted, egotistical people who need one another to keep their lives going in a town that is just as shallow as them. Spread isnt perfect, but its an interesting look into how people handle their lives under the big lights.

Charlie Bartlett…wasn’t high school fun?

Personally, high school was one of the best times of my life. Charlie Bartlett brings you back to some of those years in a way that not many people would have thought. Anton Yelchinstars as the lead of Charlie Bartlett, a smart and extremely rich young man who has been kicked out of every private school he has attended for doing various activities deemed illegal by the various institutions instructors. So Charlie is shipped to his first private school, where at first he isn’t well received. After some time however, Bartlett starts making numerous friends through selling prescription drugs in the bathroom which he gained access to through his various psychiatrists.

His drugs start getting him into trouble as his new principle (Robert Downey Jr.) starts catching on to him. Adding to Bartletts mystique is the fact that he is dating the principles daughter (Kat Dennings). Charlie becomes the leader of the school in very short amount of time and the movie starts to bring a lot of questions to mind.

Some kids today abuse perscription drugs, but I wouldnt say it goes to the extent that the movie makes it out to be, which is one of the downsides. However, the movie does show the transverse side that kids may try and do the wrong thing with these, as displayed by a suicide attempt in the movie.

Overall, the movie brings people back to how high school was. Theres the jocks, the nerds, the bullies, and everyone inbetween. The movie shows that no matter who you are in high school, everyone can find a way to relate to one another. A good movie about the realities of high school and the fun that came along with it

Hoosker does and hoosker don’ts. A Joe Dirt review

I strayed away from the usual for this post. No trailer, just my favorite scene from Joe Dirt. After I watched Club Dread it couldn’t stop reminding me of Joe Dirt because of Brittany Daniels so i had to throw this up.

I was reading a while back and Roger Ebert listed this as one of the first movies ever made. I read this, not only in shock but in utter disgust. Why? Because this is easily one of the most quoteable and hilarious movies made in the last 20 years.

David Spades character is such a loser and dirt bag, who can’t help but love him? He has a hot love interest he’s oblivious too (Brittany Daniel) manages to meet more hot women along the way (Jamie Pressly) and deliver THE BEST clip of Christopher Walkens career. Say what you will about his other movies, but his janitor scene will be engrained in my mind for years to come.

So heres to you Joe Dirt!!!! and shame on Roger Ebert. He needs to watch this movie again

Club Dread

Everyone has seen Super Troopers. Or at least anyone who is younger than 25. One of the best cult classics in memory, the Broken Lizard crew delivers plenty of hilarious installments to their movie collection. Their second one, Club Dread, wasn’t as highly hyped as the others but in its own way, is just as funny.

Jay Chandrasekhar, who directed the movie, is one of the main characters of the movie along with his usual cohoarts Paul Soter, Steve Lemme, Erik Stolhanske, and Kevin Heffernan. The movie is centered around 5 guys who work at a vacation resort and love to have fun, until one week when people start dying and the killer is loose on the island. The always beautiful Brittany Daniel is the main woman character on the island and gets in with all of the guys looking for the killer.

The movie doesnt pack as many jokes as Super Troopers, but it has its own nice spot in a niche viewership. A lot of people need to come into this movie with an open mind because of Broken Lizards style of humor. The movie gives a funny take on serial killer movies but doesn’t give up too much on the gore or intensity while it tries to be funny. Not the best movie, but it was enough fun for a lot of people to enjoy.

In Bruges

The first time I saw this movie, I fell in love with it. The story is something different, not what you see every day. After watching it a couple more times, I can’t seem to find many things wrong with this movie.

Colin Farrell and Brendon Gleeson play the lead roles as two assasins, on a veteran (Gleeson) and the other out on his first mission (Farrell). After a mistep on their first kill, the two are sent to Bruges, Belgium where Gleeson is assigned to kill Farrell. After a night out of reflection and a date, Farrell deems it acceptable for him to end his own life for the tragedy he has takin part in. Farrell doenst end his own life and neither does Gleeson, and the story takes off when their boss, played by Ralph Fiennes takes matters into his own hands.

The movie follows the two main characters in a incredibly intriguing way. The movie takes you into two different lives of two people with different ideals who manage to stay close throughout the 2 days the film follows the actors through. Farrell’s character is the most interesting as you have trouble understanding exactly what is going on his mind, but that at some point you empathize with every situation he goes through. The two meet a lot of people in Bruges and come to respect the town somewhat after Farrell bitched and moaned about what a shit hole Bruges was for the first half of the movie.

Sitting down through this movie is a treat, and something that people need to put their time into to get an enjoyable experience out of the movie. The cheap laughs and wonderful action are reasons enough to see the movie, but Farrell, Gleeson, and Fiennes are all equally wonderful

Clash of the Titans

My anticipation for this movie was extremely high. It had dominated a lot of TV spots and really tried to aim for a huge release, Avatar esque. So when we went and saw the movie this past weekend, expectations were high.

While the movie tried to meet my expectations, it somehow found a way to let you down at several points. The movie opened with the backstory of the gods, with a visually stunning fly through that brought you into the story. The story then followes Perseus, played by Sam Worthington who is slowly becoming the next big movie star world wide with roles in such huge releasing films. Perseus is half man half god and is the only person who can save the world from Hades, played by Ralph Fiennes. His brother Zeus, the god of the world, played by Liam Neeson, is at first resistant to Hades plan of unleashing hell on the people of Earth, but eventually comes around.

The story for the movie is a classic tale that many people have heard. Once the movie got going, the visual scenes were extremely captivating. The fly overs whenever people were in the wilderness brought you in and didnt let go of your attention. However, while the movie was visually almost flawless, the screen play left something to be desired. The writing wasn’t up to snuff and while the movie was visually awesome, the scenes didnt do enough to keep you focused while the actors over talked.

A fun experience, but probably for at home

Food Inc. review

Everyone has heard the disgusting truths about how our food is prepared. Slaughter houses, fat animals that are overfed, and etc. I came into Food Inc. thinking that it would completely alter my eating habits, which scared me because who doesn’t like a good hamburger from a fast food place every once-and-awhile? However, this movie opens peoples eyes in a good way.

Food Inc. (an Academy Award nominated documentary) offers a lot of insight into how people should be eating as opposed to what. The movie offers insights into how corporate America has a strangle hold over small farmers, and these factories need to mass produce to meet standards. What the movie tried to inform viewers of is how to eat consciously. It is another documentary that pushes to sway your opinion, and in some effect it does that. Other aspects of the movie miss why we have to mass produce and don’t focus on why we do it. Even though the small farmers are given the appearance of victims, they are just another chain in the line, and they sell their products in the places they want to.

While Food Inc misses a few times, it does a nice job of showing how the takeover of the food industry came so easily for large companies like Tyson. A good documentary that people should view if they ever wondered where their food really comes from

What About Bob?

Bill Murray is one of the best comedy actors of all time. He finds a way to immerse himself into his characters and know exactly what kind of quirky thing they are going to do next. I saw What About Bob? when i was a little kid and thought it was funny. After watching it again about ten years removed, i realized what a hilarious movie this is and how much people tend to under appreciate Bill Murray at times. Murray plays Bob Wiley, a very confused man who has a lot of psychiatric issues that he has tried to rid himself of. Problem is for Bob, he’s seen just about every psych there is in New York City. Finally Bob is referred to Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss), one of the best in the world. Marvin is about to leave on vacation and gives Bob his new book, baby steps, which is supposed to be able to fix any patient. Dr. Marvin is about to leave for a month on a family vacation and ushers Bob out of his office. Bob, who is extremely needy, finds Dr. Marvin at his vacation house and heads to New Hampshire. From there, the movie follows the family bonding with Bob and Dr. Marvin in turn losing his mind because of Bob. Murray shows us with a subtle tone that everyone is friendy, even if they have a few problems and everyone should give them a chance, in the most ridiculous way possible. One of Murrays top 10 movies, if not top 5 which is really saying something. The movie does have its holes, but it packs a lot of fun into a good group movie that everyone can joke about and laugh at
